Spaced out/Confused

Hey there, I'm new here but I couldn't find anywhere eles to post my story so here it goes,

About 5 months ago I was coming back on a plane from New Brunswick, ON. When the plane began to descend into Montreal I had this weird little stinging in my ear till about a couple seconds after it turned into a full out pain, it was so painful it made my eyes water. It lasted about 20 minutes and it was the worst 20 minutes of my life, until after I touched ground it seemed to ease off.

Well since then I felt very "out of it", disorientated, confused and just didn't feel "real". I thought it would go away but after 2 weeks I started freaking out from it because I didn't understand what was going on so I ran to the hospital and they gave me nasal spray.. Which did nothing. After 2 months, I got laid off my job because I wasn't working anymore; I was too disorientated. So from there I went to my Family doctor and he didn't know what was going on so he sent my to a ENT, in the meantime I went to a physiotherapist because I thought it was chronic Vertigo, and all test came back with No vertigo but I did have an imbalance, I couldn't close my eyes and stand.

The ENT got me to go for and MRI, CAT scan and bloodwork, when he looked at the tests he said everything was normal, but I had fluid in my mastoid bone. That was it though, he didn't know what was going on.

*I've also had about 13 surgeries on my ears for ventilation tubes

Now 5 months later I'm still dealing with this, it's depressing that no doctor can see anything, when I know something major is going on to be making me So dazed and chronically confused. Sometimes I get the feeling that I'm "flying", almost like a serious lightheadedness.

If anyone has ever felt the same please help this has taken over my life

Mitch

The ear symptoms you experienced on the airplane make me doubt the possibility of a neurological cause, but have you considered Migraine Associated Vertigo?

I dont think MAV could cause the intense pain you experienced, but its possible that the two events are connected.

Yes I've considered MAV but I don't get migraines. I just feel spaced always, my doctor is considering it may be a concussion that happened and thats where these symptoms are coming from

Re: Spaced out/Confused

Do a search on derealization and see if it sounds familiar.

Good luck...JJ...

Re: Spaced out/Confused

You dont have to get migraines to have MAV. I dont think I've ever had a migraine in my life, and I have MAV. Most experts prefer to call it Vestibular Migraine instead because migraines are not specific to the typical headaches.
