| Mono and not Meniere's?
Hi Everyone,
So I have been on the boards for a few months and something new came up for me. First, let me say that I was initially Dx with VN in August 2011 by three ENTs. I was referred to a dizziness and balance center for VRT, which led me to begin seeing an otoneurologist. He Dx me with early onset endolymphatic hydrops in October 2011.
At my annual appointment with my trusted ob/gyn in late October, she was concerned about the degree of fatigue I was feeling and ordered blood work after I told her I felt fatigued for months. I have always attributed the fatigue to my inner ear issues. However, the blood work came back and my numbers for the Epstein-Barr virus were SKY HIGH. I was Dx with an active case of MONO. According to my ob/gyn, the Epstein-Barr virus would have been contracted months prior because it sits and manifests in your system before it blows up into an active case of mono.
At my follow up appointment with my otoneurologist, I asked him if the mono could have been the culprit behind my symptoms of headache, dizziness, fatigue, neck pain, and ear fullness. Perhaps it wasn't an inner ear disorder at all? HE SAID YES, THAT WAS A POSSIBILITY.
So now that I am admittedly having trust issues with doctors, I am turning to my trusted friends on this message board. Has anyone ever heard of mono causing symptoms that are similar to ones experienced with inner ear disorders? I am curious, intrigued, and dumbfounded at all of this.
I may never get a solid answer as to what caused my symptoms to begin with, but it would be nice to know so I can get the proper treatment. Thanks for any input!
