Strange sensation in ear
I have had a strange sensation in my right ear for around three years now. It feels like the inner ear muscles are expanding and contracting. This sensation that I can hear and feel primarily reacts to sound, and more specifically speech.
It didn't bother me too much at first as it started around the same time I got Tinnitus which at the time was very distressing. The sensation of muscles relaxing was only ever apparent when I had finished talking in a noisy bar or if I was listening to someone else talking in a noisy bar (strange I know). It wouldn't happen all the time and it wasn't very intrusive so i didn't worry about it.
Fast forward 3 years and it has progressively gotten worse. Now i get a reaction to kids screaming and shouting, moderate noise level conversations, listening to someone talking with my headphones on and also most worryingly to my own voice.
Like I said, it feels like a muscular problem, it feels like my ears (right in particular) is over sensitive to sound and the muscles are trying to protect my ears. It has gotten so bad that If I talk for too long i get a feeling that the muscles are tightening and tightening to the pint that my hearing in my right ear becomes muffled and distorted - a bit like a crappy speaker struggling to play loud music.
I dont really feel pain when it happens but the feeling is unbearable, it's as if my ear is going to explode when it reaches full intensity. After the sound that my ear is reacting to stops, i feel/hear what sounds like something in my ear contracting.
Can anyone shed some light on this condition? I am going to see an ENT specialist in the next couple of weeks but would like to find out as much as I can about this condition.
