I am hypothyroid - I start with this cos it seems to effect everything these days!!!
For a couple of years i have had frequent urination and urgency. this had got worse in the last 6 months however, and i have had a couple of very painful bouts of what i thought were cystitis. Whenever i have been tested there has been no blood or bacteria in the samples. The GP says i need bladder re-training and so i went through this.
However, - I can be up 5+ times a night, and when i have unrinated my bladder feels like it is sore.
I read about caffiene etc affecting it and so have cut out tea/coffee and lots of other foods. I don't eat fruit now, and no spicy foods either. I do not drink and don't eat chocolate.
I sometimes feel slight twinges in my kidneys, could this be related to interstitial cystitis-if this is what i have? My doctor has been reluctant to send me to a specialist so far.
Any tips, suggestions or comments would be most welcome.
Thank you for your time.
Even without the kidney twinges you could have interstitial cystitis, but you could also have another condition. I'm guessing you need a referral to see a urologist because you said your current doc wouldn't "send" you. I'd talk to him/her again -- no one should have to put up with getting up 5 times a night. Have you had any tests yet besides the urine cultures?
Why doesnt he just send you? then you will know for sure..ASK him to refer you to a Urologist..sometimes you just have to be pushy~~
I have the same symptoms as you have,,& in june i was diagnoised with IC. am now on meds.
I have had no other tests but urine cultures. You mentioned "another condition", what else could it be?
The symptoms i wrote about are when it is at its worst. I have been following the IC diet for a few weeks and most of the time i am symptom free now, unless i eat/drink something that disagrees with me. The problem is i don't yet know everything that disagrees with me so i am trying to work this out. The sensitivity to acidic and spicy foods/drinks make me think it is IC.
Hi Zarla, I too am hypothyroid..also diagnosed when I was 21 now 53 with borderline diabetes/hypoglycemia. Am totally irresposible when it comes to my health...never went back to doc for the sugar problem. I do consume alot of sugar but why all these years later do I have a problem with it? Who knows!
I am going to a urologist for further tests.
