Interstitial Cystitis Question

Can one have interstitial cystitis and NOT have urinary frequency? I've been having what I think is bladder pain but no frequency. Gyno ruled out any vag. infection. I guess it could still be possible it's bowel or adhesions (hysterectomy 3 years ago). I did cut out all caffeine and it has made a tremendous difference in frequency and pain. The urologist did the instillation test, first instilling saline which hurt alittle and then the potassium which I felt mild cramping. It doesn't seem to be too definitive a test, but the urologist thinks its probably IC. Anyway, I'm getting a cystoscopy this week just to make sure nothing else is going on.

Re: Interstitial Cystitis Question

When I suffer bouts of IC, I do not have frequent urination. My symptoms are extreme bladder and genital pain (it actually feels like I have a binder clip attached to my southern parts (OUCH!). I take prelief tablets, 1/2 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water 3x per day, and use emu oil for the external pain. This condition is really a nuisance!

Blessings,
Kirstee

I have had IC for many years. When I get a flare-up, I donot necessarily experience frequency but almost always there is fa eeling of pressure on my bladder, and pain.

Re: Interstitial Cystitis Question

Hi All,

I am thinking that I might have interstitial Cystitis as I am almost always thinking I have to go and I usually do. Of course being on b/p meds and a diuretic in the morning does not help that. I also have osteoporosis and Fibromyalgia. I beleive I have read that can be one of the symptoms for some people with FM. In the past I have also had many UTI's on and off.

Can someone who has it or has had it in the past let me know what the symptoms are and what the procedure is for diagnosing it?

Thanks so much !

Blessings to all,

Granniluvs8 :)

My IC symptoms are urinary pain, pressure, urgency, pelvic pain. The usual way of diagnosing IC is through cystoscopy, dr. looks for ulceration inside the bladder. For my case, my uro. could not see anything abnormal with my bladder lining but I have responded well to DMSO cocktail treatments and also have had the IC symptoms.

Thanks alot !! I usually do not have pain, most of the time but someitmes I do or have a very uncomfortable heavy feeling. I have also had many UTI with plenty of pain and burning and sometimes blood. So I should know the difference. Hmmm. Who knows if I do. Occasionally have some of those symptoms but however I also usually just have to go all the time eveywhere I go. I can get very annoying and irritating and you hate to go places sometimes.

One of these days I may have to go to a uro. I have recently been to so many specialist I am tired of them - endo for thyroid and osteoporosis and now a rheumy for FM, FMP. I'm a mess !! (-: !!!

Blessings and :)
