Helpful Tips for IC

Here are a few helpful tips for anyone who has been diagnosed with IC.

Drink plenty of water! The IC bladder is inflammed and very acidic. Water helps to bring the acidity down and soothe the bladder.

Be careful to follow the IC diet! Avoid all foods and drink that are acidic such as lemons, tomatoes, vinegar, cranberry(known as the acid bomb) spicey foods etc....

For burning...Azo Standard is an over the counter med that calms the burning of urinating down. Pyridium is the prescription med that does the same thing. If you don't have either of these meds then common baking soda(1 teaspoon) in a glass of water will calm the bladder down.

warm baths help calm down the pelvic floor muscles which often times squeeze the bladder when it is inflammed. A warm bath can help relieve some of the pain.

A heating pad is a must for flares! You can place the heating pad over your pelvic area to help soothe an angry bladder.

If anyone else has any other tips that they can remember please add them to this post.

Warm healing thoughts,
