| Re: Possible IC?
Hi,
I have been diagnosed with IC via cystoscopy in June this year. The rules for diagnosis used to be strict and you had to meet all of the criteria. Now they realise that people with IC sometimes have only a few of the symptoms. My case was easy because I had an inflammed bladder when they looked at it. My only symptoms were urinary urge and frequency. I did not have pain. I was able to sleep through the night, but during the day, the urge/frequency was constant. I was able to control it because if I didn't give in to the urge, I wouldn't leak. However, having that constant feeling is terrible and sometimes I would also get a pressure like my uterus was falling out.
You need to see a urologist. Many urologists are not very good dealing with IC, so make sure that you are refered to one that knows a bit about it. It is usually diagnosed when other exploratory tests have come back negative. I had transvaginal ultrasounds, urine tests, etc, etc. Finally I was refered to a urologist who suspected IC and did a cystoscopy. It took 5 years all up to get to diagnosis.
All the best and good luck.
Linda
