Does Lomotil cause addiction even with atropine?
Just got my prescription today for diphenoxylate w/atropine (Lomotil). Has anyone experienced euphoria or other mood disorders with this med at typical doses?
I've read that it can be habit-forming but the atropine is supposed to stop this. I'm confused. Can anyone help me out?

Hi Sunny
I've been taking Lomotil for years for my IBS and have not had a problem with addiction. Mine is prescribed two every four hours as needed. Some days I have to take it all day and some days I don't need any. I should tell you though, even taking the Lomotil, I also have to take pain medication for the IBS and pain from a lung surgery I had. So being on Methadone for the chronic pain does change the situation a little, but I wouldn't worry about becoming addicated to the Lomotil or have any feelings of eurphoria.

I was just diagnoses with IBS-D also, in fact I just did the dance with the black snake (colonoscopy) on Thursday. I have been taking lomotil for a while before the diagnosis and it seems to help my symptoms a lot. The only thing I was told is that it may stop working eventually but never said anything about being addictive. Right now if it just stops the diareah I am a happy camper Also they prescribed Hyoscyamine to help with the IBS but I still need the lomotil for the diareah.
