Sick of IBS C

Hi,
I am so tired of IBS C and not find anything that helps for very long
I have tried citruscil, Zelnorm. Still on Zelnorm. I have tried drinking plenty of water. Still doing that too. Fiber. All the recommended things.
Does anyone else have this problem. I have had alot more pain lately too.
I had a colonscopy to rule out anything and they did find a polyp but that was all.
Thanks.

Re: Sick of IBS C

I can feel for you wholeheartedly. Tomorrow I go for my follow up with the GI specialist. I'm not sure why I'm going, though, because she hasn't done anything to help me. I have tried Zelnorm, Phazyme, Miralax, lots of fiber & water, & more stuff than I can even remember. I went to a health food store a while back & they recommended trying some Probiotics, which I have been on for 1 1/2 weeks. My main problem that causes me the most pain is a spot right under my ribs on the right side of my body, but it feels like it's on my back side. It's completely spasmodic, & I never know when it will hurt. I also deal with constipation daily. I have tried drinking Aloe Vera juice & it seems like it helps with the irregularity. Hang in there!

Re: Sick of IBS C

Hi, Thanks for the encouragement. When I got IBS in about 94. It hurt alot and then for yrs now it just bothered me slightly til about Feb this year. It started up and I thought for sure I had another kidney stone. So had that checked. I do have more but they are tiny. Shouldn't be bothering me the doctor said. So the longer this has hurt the more it seems IBS related.I had a colonoscopy done a few weeks ago to rule out anything serious. Had one polyp. I felt good for about 4 days then all this started up again. Do you stay on Zelnorm all the time? I go back to the GI doctor in June and not sure what he will say about anything. First time I had been to him. My GP usually handles my IBS cuz it never bothered me much.
I haven't tried Aloe. So it helps? I hope you get some answers. Snodove

Re: Sick of IBS C

Hi Snodove,

You might want to try using a quarter of a pill (split into four with a pill splitter) of bile salts with your meals to help you with the constipation. Bile is produced by the body and dumped in the intestines by the gall-bladder and so it is perfectly natural. It is actually used to help the body digest fats in foods, but it acts as a laxative as well. It regulates the amount of intake of water from food while the food is in the digestive track.

My suggestion is to take a quarter of a pill because it causes a lot of water retention in the stool. Only take it if you are sure you will suffer from hard stools constipation because it can cause a normal BM to turn into diarrhea and it can cause diarrhea to be really bad.

Take it with a meal so that it evenly spreads in the food - otherwise it will help wherever it comes in contact with the food and the rest of your food will be stuck further in front causing you lots of gas and bloating.

If a quarter of a pill isn't enough to start with, you can increase or decrease your dosage - but be very careful with it. BTW: it tastes terrible.

It is available OTC (non-prescription) and it is usually used by those who have had their gall-bladder removed. You should be able to obtain it from a drug store or a natural food store.

Cheers, Raju.

Re: Sick of IBS C

Hi,
I will have to check into that. I have had my gallbadder out too back in the 90's makes me wonder if it might have started some of this. I hope taking a duetric won't affect this. I take one each day for prevention of Kidney stones. Thanks, snodove

Re: Sick of IBS C

You are not alone!!!

I belive that my IBS was cause by taking antiacids. the problem started around the time that I was treated for a simple gastritis. I was given : Prevacid, acid, carafate,etc.. At first it seemed that it would work for a while. But than I still had stomach pain and nausea.

Well after three months taking these antiacid i started to notice my weight. I had lost over 20 pounds. I couldn't eat any solid foods. I went to the specialist for a checkup. I was sent home with boxes of ENSURE. Than I statred to notice dry stools. It was scarry to see undigested food in the toilet. I was than diagnoised with Malabsorbtion.

That was it for me!! These people don't know what they are doing. They are just working for the drug companies.

One tv commercial for an antiacid goes like this : " Some stomach condition could still exsist" In other words these medication are not going to the root of the problem. There is a false sense of getting better. And by the end of any given treatment you could have develop other symptoms.

I learned the hard way. I had to go to an alternative doctor. Within months I was able to digest food again and gain a little weight. My gastritis is better. And my IBS is not as bad as it was before. The healing is evident. Though it would take time to fully recover.

My treatment was:

DGL the one that won't cause high blood pressure. It supports your stomach and intestinal linning. Should be taken before foods. Treatment should last two to four months.

Enzyems to disgest food easily. After taking to much antiacid your stomach can't digest food. Than you end up with IBS and malabsorbtion.

Flax seeds. Health food stores sell it in bulk. You boil the seeds. A cup of it in half a galon of water. The water will be like the aloe texture. Make sure to pass it through a strainer. So that the water will not have any seeds left. It suppose to help as an antiflamatory. It helped with my colitis and my gastritis. It lubricates your intestines.

Bifidus. With all the mess of being constipated your intestinal flora suffers. Bifidus is the bateria than mainly lives in the large intestines.

I hope that this info could help someone out there that are looking for a real solution for their IBS and Gastritis problems.
