Hi! I'm new to this board and am hoping to find answers to some of my questions.
I'm a 34 year old woman who's been struggling with abdominal pain for what seems like forever... The pain is almost always located in my left lower side and intensifies whenever I have a bowel movement or urinate or even ride a bike. It varies between a constant burning or stabbing pain and sometimes will radiate down my leg or in my lower back. I experience alot of bloating and constipation even though I drink alot of water and eat veggies, fruit and other high fiber foods. Sometimes, I get severe cramps and diarhea with mucous, sweating and nausea. (I call them PRAYER CRAMPS because they are so bad all you can do is sit on the toilet and PRAY to God that they go away soon!) It's been so difficult to have this problem properly diagnosed. Just when I thought I was finally getting somewhere (had a barium enema done) my family doctor decided to retire. That was in 2002. I just went to see a new doctor yesterday and she said to me "Drink prune juice". Puhleeze!!!! It isn't that simple! It really bothers me when doctors are so nonchalant about this kind of stuff.
I have a history or recurring ovarian cysts and was also diagnosed with IBS and diverticulitis. I may also have endometriosis. Was also told back in 1991 that I had colon polyps when I experienced profuse bleeding from my rectum and had a colonoscopy done. I abused laxatives for a long time (I've been in recovery from eating disorders since 2001) and suspect that this abuse has something to do with my bowel problems. My mother has colitis and her mother had it too.
Does anyone have any suggestions/advice as to how to go about getting this problem properly diagnosed and treated?
Thank you! I'm grateful to have found this board...
