The Fine Line

This is kind of a general question, I always have questions, lol.

How do you know when a problem you are having is IBS or something is seriously wrong? That's the problem with it, something could be deathly wrong with me and I'd chalk it up to IBS. I'm just trying to figure it out. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: The Fine Line

Hi hues,

That is a comon problem faced by IBS sufferers. If they suffer from something new or if the pain they suffer from already changes into a whole new dimension, there is no way of telling - short of asking a doc or perhaps having tests done.

That is why it is so important to have the regular check up done - just to make sure everything is still in working order - especially if you suffer from IBS or other problems that don't have a fixed agenda and is hard to detect.

I guess there is nothing else you can do, unless you're in my shoes and you know how to detect the trouble causing agents.

Cheers, Raju.

Re: The Fine Line

IBS is a syndrome and not a disease but I agree with Raju -- You need regular checkups to rule out anything that is serious.

Re: The Fine Line

Hi everyone! I am new here, and just got started to be able to post and all...my doctor who started out in General Med, but is actually my OB-GYN told me that I have IBS. Not sure if I should try and get checked by someone who specializes in this sort of thing, but I do have all the symptoms. I would guess mine is "with constipation" being that I get that sort of thing, too. My doctor didn't seem to think I needed any special testing or a colonoscopy to tell, since what I described to him pointed so much towards IBS....But I do know what you mean by a "fine line".

This may seem like TMI or gross, so disregard this part if you are squemish, but does anyone else w/ IBS or IBS like symptoms get a sort of pink colored discharge from your anus at certain times? Not blood outright but reminiscent of it?

I am wondering if it is something I should be getting checked out....
