I'm new here, and am hoping others can relate to what I'm feeling and the PAIN. My doctor recently told me I have ibs. I have had the horrible bloating and constipation since I was a teenager, especially after I eat, but can occur anytime.
A few years ago, I suddenly had this menstrual-like cramping in my pelvic area, it went around to my back and then down my inner thigh and all this was occuring more on my left side than right. The pain became so intense in a short time that I had to lie down, it was like labor pains. Horrible, brought tears to my eyes and all I could do was moan until it passed, which took about an hour. I could not move the pain was so intense. During this time of pain, I had horrible pressure on my rectum and pelvic area. As I said, like I was in labor. I had my kids naturally, so I know exactly what this feels like!
The last few times this has happened(and it may not happen for 3 or 4 months, or it may happen 3 days in a row......) the pressure on my rectum during this excruciating pain has made me get my husband to help me up off the bed and into the bathroom. I did have a bowel movement, and gradually the pain subsided, although not immediately. It happened 3 days in a row, with no warning. And I'm not feeling bloated prior to these painful episodes.
I talked to my doctor, and he said that it was ibs. I tried to explain to him that it feels more like my uterus contracting horribly than my intestines causing pain. But he insists it is ibs.
Does ANYONE else have this kind of pain?? I've been searching for answers to the pain on the internet, and can't find a similiar pain associated with ibs anywhere.
I went thru a period about 6 yrs. ago where I thought I was going to die from the pain. I also have the bearing down pain of labor sometimes still. It is always followed by passing of thick jelly like blood. This period where it was so bad lasted usually at least 12 hrs. Sometimes for 3 or 4 days in a row. Sometimes everyweek and sometimes I would get a break and go a couple of weeks free. It came with nausea and spinning head too. No way I could even get up to dress for work. Immodian (sp?) was my best friend along with my heating pad. I've only had the bad stuff about 3 times in the last yr. Now I still get bent double by the pain when it starts and I never feel like I get everything out. Constant feeling of constipation until the spasms start. I think I have bouts of colitis but I had a colonoscopy done during the real bad yrs. and my colon was clean. I didn't pursue it any further. I go to a clinic and you do good to get an appointment. What I wanted to tell you was that I thought anything so painful and bloody had to be cancer but I would be dead by now so don't worry so much about that.Lucky is my day to have a really normal bowel movement. It sucks doesn't it? Cheryl
I have the same exact thing. It's most horrific when I'm at work and it starts and I feel sick to my stomach and want to throw up. It's IBS alright! It's a sudden pain to, no warning. Unfortunately for us IBSers, that's what we have to deal with.
I know the pain. I have Crohn's. It starts very fast and it gets very intense quickly. It starts at the rectum and moves up into my stomach. The last one I had was very bad. It started in the rectum and felt as though it wrapped around my bladder then traveled up to my chest. I take prescription every day for spasms. That is what you are having. It feels to me like a horrible burning also. Really it's kind of hard to explain. But it always starts in the rectum. Ask your doctor for a med for spasms of the colon. I also have the horrible cramping when I'm having a BM. I get very sick, almost throwing up and have even almost passed out many times. It leaves me very weak.
You describe what I have to a "T". In fact this week I am having a problem with it after a long span of not having this problem.
Does anyone else notice this or is it a coincidence? At one point in time I was on a decongestant from the doctor and it triggered this problem(?). It went on for the longest time.
Recently, because of double ear infections the doctor has put me on an antibotic ear drop along with taking Allegra D in the morning and regular Allegra at night. Now, after two weeks, low and behold the problem is here. I truly think in my case this is the trigger for me. I have not had this problem or that type of medication in a couple of years.

Anyone else experience this?

PS I also had a recent colonoscopy and happy to report with perfect results, thank God.
