Fiber Question

i was chronic constipated for about 6 months but i think i found out why because i was taking these pills and i found out they can cause gastrointestinal problems and dehydration. when i took less of them i was able to go to the bathroom for about 2 1/2 weeks without being constipated. it was usually every 3-5 days when i would get constipated. i was drinking a cup of prune juice every night for those 6 months and after the 2 1/2 weeks i figured i didnt need them anymore and the next day i couldnt go to the bathroom. and last night i didnt have any prunes and couldnt go today, but when i used to get constipated i wouldnt feel i had to go, now that i take less of the pills and i am pretty sure thats what was causing it, i feel like i have to go but i cant go. why is it that if i dont drink the prunes for a day i get constipated is it because my bodys used to the fiber? and how do i fix it

Re: Fiber Question

Your system needs to intake 25 to 30 grams of fiber daily for your intestines to work right --- if you don't you will get constipated. Prune juice is a type that does not change as it passes though your Gastro system -- so that is why it passes so easily.
I suggest that you start taking a water soluble fiber supplement like Metamucil daily --like it says on the container with alot of water. It's safe to take daily and will make you regular with little straining.
It will cause Gas when you first start because it is a digestable natural fiber but the gas goes away with continued use.
It sounds like yiou are not intaking enough fiber in your diet or enough liquid either.

Best regards--Hazel
