Smile Lotronex Anyone?

I have suffered with IBS for almost 7 years. I have had a colonscopy, been on two antispasmatics and tried fiber pills, plus cut out my main trigger foods. My GI doc wants me to have a fructose intolerance test tomorrow and if that is clear start me on Lotronex. Is anyone on Lotronex and how are your results? My mom wants me to try metamucil twice a day before I do the lotronex because she is a little freaked out by the possible side effects of Lotronex. I just want some relief!
Thanks

Re: Lotronex Anyone?

Hi abrownie. I never took Lotronex. My doctor prescribed it, and just before I started taking them, they were pulled from the market. You have probably already read about these products, but if you havent, Digestive Advantage, and Caltrate colon health tablets have done wonders for me and many others. I am not saying that they work for everyone, but they are over the counter and relatively inexpensive. Are you C or D? What spasm med. did you take? When I do have a flare-up with the spasms I take hyoscamine sublingual pills. That usually stops them in about 5 or 10 min. I also take anti diarrhea med. which also helps. I tried the metamucil and benefiber but it didnt seem to make any difference. I hope this helps a little, and Good Luck!! catlover

Re: Lotronex Anyone?

After four months of IBS-D (and various episodes for several years) I started taking Lotronex. It has worked VERY well. It took about two weeks to start noticing a difference. I read quite a bit of material before I started taking it. From what I can tell one just needs to be very responsible when taking this medication. You have to sign a contract and it spells out CLEARLY under what conditions you should immediately contact your GI and when you should seek medical attention.

As opposed to taking three to five meds to control the situation I am taking one medication. That is what makes it such a good choice for me.

Goodluck,

Lynda B.
