Hi all--
I'm just wondering if anyone uses Bentyl (an anti-spasmatic) for their IBS flare ups? I've started using it when my stomach starts cramping and although I can't use it completely as prescribed because it makes me so sleepy, I really think it's helping me break the cycle I seem to suffer from. I usually am constipated for several days (like 7-10) then I'll have a bowel movement usually very non productive and painful. My stomach and entire abdominal area is very tender to touch and my stomach spasms like crazy, I don't even have to eat anything for it to happen and just water can really make things worse. I've been taking the Bentyl (about two pills per day, I'm supposed to take four but they make me too sleepy) and my bowel movements are really regular and my pain is not as severe. At this point in the cycle (without Bentyl) I would be nauseous, constipated, then have terrible diarrhea for 3-4 days with sick, sick, sickness. Does Bentyl happen to contribute to looser stools, does anyone know or is this just what my body should be doing if it was normal?? Thanks for any help you can give me about this drug. Take care!
