What are the latest anti-spasmodic

Hi, i was wondering what are the latest antispasmodic's avaiable? I know bentyl is an old drug. Does any1 know about ibs and acetylcholine? I know that acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that in people with IBS D with abdominal pain is elevated, could blocking this neurotransmitter relieve the symptoms? Any information would be grateful. Thankyou M.Riches

Re: What are the latest anti-spasmodic

I have IBS-D. I don't know about the drug you're talking about, but I use the anti-spasmotic, Pamine. It's methscopolamine bromide. Made by Kenwood Laboratories. My gastro recommended it as a good alternative to Bentyl (less side effects). It's fairly new -- just a few years on the market. Only side effects I noticed when first started taking it were a little drowsiness (which lesses as you keep taking it), and dry mouth and constipation (which can be overcome with increasing soluable fiber intake).

Re: What are the latest anti-spasmodic

I have had IBS-D for many years. I take a med. called Hyoscamine. I take the sublingual tablets whenever i have an attack with spasms. I just put 1 or 2 under my tongue, and usually by the time they dissolve, the spasms are gone. Thank heaven I dont have many of those attacks anymore since I started taking the caltrate calcium colon health tablets. Im afraid i have never heard of the drug you mentioned, but these pills are relatively inexpensive. Good Luck! catlover
