My IBS caused by Lyme and tick coinfection...
Hello All -
Well Harry it looks like my IBS is related to more than just overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. It seems I have Lyme disease with a tick borne coinfection called Babesiosis. So I will be treating the overgrowth but it is most likely due to the fact that my immune system has been fighting this Lyme for awhile.
I still think Lin's study is very interesting. In my very uneducated and humble opinion though I think IBS is a very broad term for numerous issues with the digestive tract. I think some people have a mobility issue and this is classic IBS but I do think that others can start to experience IBS like symptoms from bacteria.
Well, if any of you suspect tick borne illness is the issue of your IBS see a lyme specialist and get tested by a reputable lab that specializes in Lyme testing. I have been sick for 6 months and had 3 blood tests with traditional labs when finally the fourth came back positive. I may have to pay for this blood work myself but it may have saved me from being in a wheelchair.
I had other symptoms like...chest pain, lower back pain only in the morning, low blood pressure, low body temp. (i never ran a fever), I had no rash except for a little chigger like rash that moved around my body every 3 weeks or so, insomnia, feeling like I am being jolted with little spurts of electricity through my veins, inflammation of my veins, heart palpitations, nausea, dizziness, lost 15 lbs. in three weeks, extreme fatigue, the list goes on and on...
Anyway check out the Lyme group here on Healthboards if you suspect it is Lyme.
Good luck to you and healthy days ahead for you!!!
