Rare Disorder?? - Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Message Board

I came across the NORD (National Organization of Rare Disorders) website the other day and they had IBS listed as a rare disorder. It seemed strange to me because I know a lot of people that have it...so why is it listed as being rare? Any feedback.

Thats a good question.. They say up to 20% of the population suffers from IBS symptoms at one point or another... It might be because hardly any of those 20% go to the doctor and get a proper diagnosis, because it doesn't affect their daily life like it does others, also people are embarrased to talk about bowel troubles. IMO
