| Re: IBS is RUINING my life!
I tried Bentylol (Canadian equivalent of Bentyl) last summer. I took it for less than two weeks because it spaced me out completely. I constantly felt like I had a two-drink buzz. And I was only taking less than 1/3 of the dose. It didn't do anything for my symptoms. One interesting side effect that it had was that it made my vision better! I also tried Dicetel a couple of years ago and I was in the bathroom within half an hour with horrible cramps and diarrhea. I had a upper GI and small bowel test two years ago and it showed that while for most people the barium takes 1 to 3 hours to go through their system, in me it only took 20 minutes. It was already coming out before I even left the clinic. I had a colonoscopy last year that showed no problems. The last time I saw my gastroenterologist, which was just after my colonoscopy, he said that I probably have IBS, gave me a brochure on it that was printed in 1993, and sent me on my way. He didn't tell me to come back for a follow-up or give me any other medication options either.
I just started seeing a new GP two weeks ago because my old one didn't seem to take me seriously. He just told me that I was stressed and I should relax. When I told him that I get full fast and sometimes I can't even swallow one more bite of food, he told me that what I was describing to him wasn't a physical symptom, and asked me if I had a chicken bone stuck in my throat. My new GP sent me for an ultrasound last week which showed that I have fat on my liver. I am 5'6", 117 pounds, and he said it showed the amount of fat he would expect to see on somebody who is overweight. Could this be the source of my problems? I have always thought all along that I am not digesting foods properly and getting the nutrients out of them. Everything just seems to fly through me and I can't gain weight. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
