Digestive Enzymes? Help or not? - Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Message Board

I was wondering if any of you supplemented your diet with digestive enzymes? If so, can you tell me which ones helped and which ones didn't? I am thinking about putting my son on them after I read a bit more on it to see if it will help him with IBS.

Yes, Sixx, I've tried a product called "Digestive Advantage IBS," and it is working. I have the IBS with diarrhea and this product, in just one week, got rid of my pains, gas, and bloating, and has stopped the diarrhea. It was only $10 for 32 chewable tablets in the local drugstore. You should try it!

Hi Sixx,

I don't want to nix what Gregzgirl said. She is probably right about Digestive Advantage for IBS. The active ingredient in it is a probiotic (Lactobacillus). I've been takeing a probiotic for quite sometime and it does seem to help. I didn't mention it earlier because I'm a C not a D but I read on their sight it works for both. I take something called Multidophilus. They have 4 probiotics in them. You get them in the refridgerator section of your health food store. They are a fairly small capsle. You could also break them open and sprinkle them in milk, apple juice or grape juice. I wouldn't use oj because of the acid I know the bacteria can live on the other three. They are $12 for 90 capsles. Mine have such a high bacteria count that I only have to take one a day. There job is to help you grow good bacteria in your colon to cut down on the bad which in turn helps regulate your bowel or that's the idea anyway.
