| Oats Intolerance
HI all,
My body crashed almost 3 months ago. I became very ill, dizzy with diarrhea and I it took me ages to improve. I have lost 14 kilos in weight and am very much underweight now. Doctors say its IBS subject to further tests.
I have kept a chart of all my foods and I have identified that I cannot tolerate any fat (including flax oil, fish oil capsules, salmon fat etc); nor can I tolerate fructose (especially honey and fruit juice). Recently I was doing quite well. My weight had stabilised and I thought I had it all under control, until I decided to have some OATS.
If I can turn back the clock for a moment - before by body crashed I had eaten wheat pasta, breads and pizza all my life. But OATS had always been a problem in that they would make my stools extremely pale if I ate them for a few days. So I stopped eating oats and stuck to weetbix and bread etc and my stools returned to normal. Occasionally (every 6 months) I would become gluten sensitive (usually after too much alcohol) but by staying off gluten and dairy for 24 hours, things returned to normal.
Back to the present, I am extremely confused. All the literature says intolerance of OATS can only mean COELIAC DISEASE. But I appear to be intolerant to oats (and occasionally gluten sensitive) WITHOUT being sensitive to gluten in pasta, bread etc. Is this possible?
Regards, Jack
UPDATE: Hmm, had 2 pieces of oily salmon last night. Gut didnt handle the fat and felt stomach "pulsing" all night. Weighed my self this morning to discover I've lost another kilo or so. All instances of weight loss in the past 3 months have been overnight purges caused by reaction to food.
