For over 20 years, I have had problems with on and off diarreah and constant gas. From these boards, I learned about rubber underwear and tried other suggested cures. I have been to many gastroenterologists who told me I was lactose intolerant and suffered from IBS.

Last February, I went to see a nutritionist who gave me a saliva test kit that I self administered and sent to a lab for results which indicated I have a genetic intolerance to eggs and soy. Both my nutritionist and my most recent gastroenterologist also suggest I have wheat sensitivity.

I thought I had wheat intolerance and had gone for years without dairy, so the egg and soy intolerance diagnosis got me very upset as I was afraid to introduce dairy back into my diet. I had the classic response: I got furious with my nutritionist. However, after a month or so, I decided to go back to see her. Of course, both eggs and soy are in many, many processed foods, so it's hard to totally give them up. For the most part, I avoid processed foods. I incorporated dairy back into my diet. When I eat too much wheat (especially high fiber) I experience the old problems again; however, moderate amounts do not bother me.

I hope anyone experiencing digestive problems will get tested for eggs, soy, wheat and dairy. The gastroenterologists I visited in past years never performed tests and diagnosed on the basis of my symptoms. I now (at age 50) have osteopenia after avoiding dairy for so many years. I have my life back and no longer worry about embarassing gas or worse.
