medical tests - Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Message Board

My my gastrintestinal specialist has taken over my care from my GP for an ongoing problem with not moving my bowels, I had a colonoscopy, all I could think about during the test is what they were doing to me. I didn't like it at all.
Now he said I need to have a defography(sp?), I can't seem to fine out exactly what that involves , the doctor told me I have to have barium put into me and have it tested on the way out,yuk!
Are there any hospital people out there that can explain what i have to go through?
Or anyone ever had this test?

My name is Rich and I have IBS for over nine years, having had many tests for my IBS I read a few books on other tests. Defography is briefly in my IBS book and I will try and explain the test from my book, first they anchor a porta potty to an ex-ray table You lay on the ex-ray table in a fetal position while they insert a barium paste, like toothpaste in the rectum until you are uncomfortable it is like stool going in in reverse Then a radiologist has you squat down to the porta potty and he lifts the table upright so you are sitting on the porta potty. The radiologist then gives you instructions to go hold go stop etc. Kirsten it is an American book so the jargon is American. The test is a little uncomfortable but not too bad, hope this helps a little
