Question Has anyone tried Sunrider?

For those who don't know, it's one of those legal pyramid, home business programs, like Melaleuca, etc. The premise is that their products provide whole foods, whole nutrition, and live enzymes.

I met with a rep yesterday and tried some of the products. I must say, I'm feeling pretty good today, though it may be coincidence. I've got more samples to try for the rest of the week, so we'll see. The thing is, this stuff is BRUTALLY expensive, and the only way to cut down some of the cost is to become a distributor. (Sound familiar???) So I'm not sure I really want to bother going that route. On the other hand, if it does improve my health, it might be worth it. Has anyone here tried it?

Oh and the reason I'm asking in the IBS forum is that many of their products are supposed to specifically aid digestion and end IBS. That's why I met with her to start with. Any feedback is much appreciated!

Re: Has anyone tried Sunrider?

Hi desiii,

I've known some people who've been helped by digestive enzymes. However, these are widely available at health food stores, maybe even Walmart.

Whole foods are usually found at the grocery store, along the fringes. Fresh fruit & veg, plain dairy, unadulterated raw meat. -- And we know that many folks don't get enough whole foods for good health. Although whole foods from the grocer may be expensive, when you compare pound for pound with the same thing in supplement form, you'll save $$ many times over shopping & preparing real food for the same nutrients. Even if you buy organic.

I rather doubt that these products are the be-all & end-all for IBS, as many individuals over the yrs. on this forum have testified that they have found a particular key to solving their own IBS, and Sunrider is rarely mentioned. But then, I am skeptical about both hot-new-expensive pharma meds, as well as those pyramid-pushed supps.

It's possible that these products may help you; but if you're mainly getting enzymes & whole foods, you may want to compare the prices of other products. On the other hand, if it works for you & you can afford it, then who am I to say don't do it.

Best wishes.

Re: Has anyone tried Sunrider?

Thanks elmhar,

I too am wary of these pyramid deals, so that has been a major concern for me. And I agree that it's important to eat whole foods, and certainly cheaper. The problem with grocery store produce is that it's saturated in chemicals that kill most of the good stuff. So we're left with very little nutrition, just a bunch of nice looking fruits and veggies that last a little longer on the shelf. Even organic stuff has very little regulation. I'm not saying sunrider is the answer, and I really doubt it is. But I've heard some pretty incredible testimonials. And I had some immediate relief of some physical symptoms yesterday when I tried the tea. Not that those things are enough to convice me it's worth going into debt over! lol. So now I'm in research mode, trying to learn what I can. I do find that they are not quick to share the ingredients of many of their products. I'm still digging around to find that out. But from what I can gather, they are specially grown produce and Chinese herbs that are free from the usual chemicals our food contains, and that they're highly concentrated, and maintain the live enzymes.

I have already ordered some inexpensive digestive enzymes as well (not from sunrider) and am looking forward to trying them. (Unfortunately, I have to have them imported to Canada. So it might be another month or two until I see them, if at all). I guess I'm curious to see how all these enzymes can affect the health. Perhaps the food enzymes combined with the digestive enzymes can be helpful. Or maybe just one or the other is enough to see a difference. Or maybe none will work! lol. Who knows. I just want something to work. It's been too many years...

In any case, I would never presume there is a "cure all" for IBS. I know very well that what works for one person may not work for another.

Re: Has anyone tried Sunrider?

Ya know, now that I've done some more research, I don't think I'll be taking this product. From what I've learned, there is a lot of secrecy about the ingredients and processing. And it sounds like, although some of their products can be useful, most are garbage. There's a great deal of deception and deflection in this company. The deciding factor for me is the spiritual purposes of it. The whole product revolves around the Eastern mystic yin-yang ideology, and I can definitely feel something strange going on. I'm not confortable with using something like that.

I do like some of the things they talk about, like using whole foods, etc. So I'm going to put in that extra effort (and some extra money, but not nearly as much as it would cost to buy their product) to find good organic fruit and veggies. More work in the end, but I think probably still better.

Re: Has anyone tried Sunrider?

Maybe good thinking, desiii. There will always be ops in the future to try these products, if you decide to revisit.

I was actually a little worried when you mentioned the Chinese herbs. They've gotten some bad press with findings of heavy metal & other types of nasty contamination. I can't say whether that would have definitely affected the product you were looking at, but that's sorta the point: who knows?

Some very reputable supplements have affadavits of purity from 3rd party labs. I'm wondering whether your Sunrider literature mentions this? In the best case, you can actually contact the lab (often a university lab) and verify the testing.

I hope the organic food is beneficial to you. I try to buy it as much as possible myself. Best wishes.
