Yesterday's colonoscopy

Hello,

Yesterday I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy... inflammation of the small bowel was found.. (lleum), biopsies taken and I now have to await my results.

My question is.. are there any other medical conditions which can cause inflammation in this area please? I am assuming either Crohns or Colitis.

I think I already know the answer, but 2 weeks is a long time to wait.

Many thanks
Tracy

Hi Tracy,

There are a number of conditions that can cause that inflam. Infection & celiac disease are 2 that come to mind in addition to what you've mentioned. There are several varieties of colitis ... and probably other things, I'm not an expert. Celiac disease I am quite familiar with. 97% of the celiacs in the USA are undiagnosed! Untreated it can be very nasty in the long run, but treatment (special diet) is very helpful. I have a friend with both celiac & microscopic colitis DX. However, she has made great progress & is hardly ever sick any more.

Please don't worry too much. These conditions are treatable/manageable. Kudos to you for getting actual testing done! Too many docs just say ... it's IBS, live with it. IME inflam in the ileum is not likely "just" IBS.

I hope you will update us when you get your path results! It's always helpful for those who are "left behind" on the IBS board!

Best wishes.

Re: Yesterday's colonoscopy

Hello,

Thanks so much for your reply. I do know it is not IBS, as I have today read many different articles stating IBS does not show as inflammation.

I just cannot wait to get my results now, just so I can start treating my symptons with the right medication at last.

Thanks again.
Tracy
