A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with IBS, after celiac disease, Crohn's, etc. were all ruled out. It turned out that I also had lactose intolerance and multiple food allergies, but those are under control now (I watch my diet very closely and only eat foods I know I can tolerate).
Since October last year, I have had recurring bouts of loose, foul-smelling stools and the occasional abdominal cramp shortly before a BM. The frequency of my BMs is normal, though. I also have bouts of nausea/loss of appetite several times a week. Since I am also extremely underweight (always have been--current BMI 15.5), I absolutely cannot afford to miss a meal. I feel weak and am unable to function properly often enough as it is.
My doc still thinks it's IBS, whereas my dietician suspects it may be a problem with digesting fats.
I do not have any significant stressors in my life at the moment; in fact, I've had a pretty quiet life for the past couple of months. The only correlation I've noticed with my symptoms is that they get better the week before my period, and flare up again as soon as I start.
I hardly have any pain, so I'm not sure that what I have is really IBS. Aren't you supposed to have pain with that????
Does this sound like IBS to you at all?
Thank you very, very much in advance for any insights you might have!!
