Hello All
I have battled IBS (mostly IBS-C, although if things build up long enough I will then experience diarrhea) for over twenty years and have also had a few episodes of diverticulitis. Over the weekend I had something happen on a scale I have not previously experienced and I am wondering if it's worth a call to the DR or is it's just more of the same.
Saturday morning I had a small BM, mostly hard ping pong ball sized stool which is not unusual for me, some mucous which is also not unusual. I noticed that there was a slight painful twinge toward the left side of my pelvis as the stool passed. Then about an hour later I felt this tremendously intense pain and pressure in my rectum which spread to my enitre pelvic floor. It was so bad I literally could not sit or stand upright. I had another couple of small bowel movements and thought that the pain would go away but it didn't. Several hours later I took a brief walk to see if it would help but that did nothing except make me feel slightly dizzy.
On Sunday the rectal pressure was much less but all day and even this morning my lower abdomen feels sore, kind of like I had done a lot of sit ups the day before. I had a small BM this morning which was the same as Saturday. I am painfully bloated, can't put my hand on my abdomen without it hurting.
As I said this is not an entirely new experience but it is the severity of the pain, as well as its duration, that has me a bit concerned. I had some chills but no temperature.
In the past when I have gone to my doctor about these issues they tend to chalk it up to the IBS, tell me to drink more water (I drink a LOT because of a history of kidney stones) and eat more fiber. I don't want to waste my time or the doctor's to hear this drivel once again (OK it's not drivel, but it's not exactly helpful when I already do all of those things). I did get some acidopholis and will take that but want to know whether this sounds to my fellow sufferers like reason to be concerned.
Thanks all replies are very appreciated!!
