IBS questions. PLEASE HELP!
I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome 2 monthes ago.
After learning that i was not lactose intolerant, and taking enzyme pills every night as well as giving my doctor some stool samples (which when he tested, were perfectly normal), my doctor put me on a medicine called Notriptalyn (not sure if i spelled it right). I was on it two monthes was little improvement. I only took 2 10 mg pills at the time. Now my doctor has increased the amount to 4 10 mg pills every night before bed.
Here are my symptoms:
I wake up every morning, eat breakfast, and have an urge to go to the bathroom. So i spend about 40 minutes every morning sitting on the toilet. I'm not constipated, but the feces comes out.. slowly.. i guess. gradually. so it takes a long time. lately however, after already spending 40 minutes in the bathroom, i must stand up, walk around a little, and then go back and have another BM. The 2nd bm is much much looser than the first, which can range from hard, to.. i guess normal. Then, in the night, after dinner, i get a lot of gas, at times i have so much that it makes my stomach hurt really bad. Lately, after starting taking the 4 pills, i also feel constipated in the night, even though i just had 2 BMs in the morning. I can't pass gass, and i can't use the restroom. Is there a reason for this?
and Is there something else I can try? Particularly another medicine?
my doctor is very sure it is IBS that I am suffering from, however the increase in dosage of my medicine has helped me little, if anything, it has made me feel worse. Before, I did not need to have 2 BMs and didn't have the constipated feeling (before= with the 2 pills a night). I have no idea why though, does anyone know?
So i guess my questions are
1. Why did the increase in the amount of medicine cause me to feel constipated in the night and have 2 BMs in the morning as opposed to one.
2. Is there anything i can do to help this? Any medicine (prescription or OTC) that could be beneficial to me?
3. Could this be something other than IBS?
i'm pretty sure its not a food intolerance
Thank you in advance!!
