| confusion over diagnosis
i have just been told by my gp that the surgeon i recently saw has diagnosed ibs after a colonoscopy, blood tests and ultrasound didn't reveal anything. i am confused because my symptoms don't seem to be typical of ibs. i have had severe upper abdominal pain on the right hand side. the pain wakes me from sleep most of the time, lasts about 10 minutes before subsiding. this happens on average about 3 times a week with occasional weeks without happening. the pain is constant while it lasts and feels like intense pressure as if something has got stuck. the pain radiates to my right shoulder, it feels very similar to the gallbladder attacks i had before they removed it, except it doesn't last as long. the pain does not seem to be related in anyway to bowel movements and is not crampy in nature. can anyone tell me if this sounds like ibs to them as im not convinced that it is.
