I'm new here...
I've tried almost everything for IBS. Most of the medicines I took made my symptoms worse (like mebeverine) or didn't have any effect at all (like pinaverium). The last thing I've tried was clonidine (which is normally used for high blood pressure), in a low dosage (0,05mg). I've felt that the gas diminished a lot, but I had a lot of side effects, like diziness and headache.
Have anyone tried to take Clonidine? What were the effects? What's the ideal dosage?
You should not be taking blood pressure meds for IBS unless you actually have high blood pressure in the first place and this is why you are getting dizziness and headaches. If you take BP meds without needing them you can easily get orthostatic hypotension or a generalised drop in blood pressure below normal, because your blood pressure was normal alreaady. Do not take these unless you need them to control your BP. If you do not have high BP, then do not take them. Even a very small dose when not needed can cause side effects.
As far as the IBS goes. Why not try the alternatives? These work very well and even better than conventional meds. The alternatives treat causes rather than symptoms which is what you need for cure. Symptomatic treatment will not cure and can suppress too.
Thanks for the advices... I guess I´m just looking for a way of feeling better and have a minimal quality of life while looking for a REAL treatment.
Actually, the articles I´ve read say that a very very small dose of that medicine helps relievieng the symptoms WITHOUT messing with your BP (which, to be honest, I don´t really believe).
In what concerns alternative treatments, I thought about taking the Chinese herbs together with some relaxing method, maybe that could be Reiki.
