I just saw a new medication shown on TV for IBS called Zelnorm. According to the commerical this medication is only for women.
Has anyone tried this medication? How does it compare to Levbid?
I have heard that it works great but it is expensive, something like $190 a month. My insurance doesn't cover prescriptions, so I haven't gotten it yet. Let us know how it works if you try it.
Just to let you know that Zelnorm is specially designed for women. However, you should only take this if you have constipation type IBS. It is contraindicated in cases of diarrhea and you should not take it, as it contains an ingredient in it that makes diarrhea a hell of a lot worse and that is how it revearses constipation.
Just a note - Zelnorm's not specially designed for women, it's just not approved for men yet. There were too few men in the drug's FDA approval trials for it to be approved for them as well. I guess the manufacturers figure that because over 70% of IBS sufferers are women, that that's good enough...??
