Andy. I have similar pain, except in my right side. I am learning to adjust my diet. I had an almost perfect day today, except when I stubbornly drank some bubby water. I won't do it again. I paid the price. It seems related to eating habits. Seems to be triggered by foods that don't agree with us.
If this ropelike thing is close to your hipbone, it could be a ropelike thing called the psoas muscle. Its right inside your front hipbone. If that is what it is certain massage techniques, stretching and active release technique could help.
Ok, I have ongoing right side pains for 13 years! They thought it was everything from endometrosis to cysts in my ovaries to tubular pregnancy. You would not even believe me if I told you how many doctors I have seen and how many emergency room visits I have had. I just found out last year this side pains were caused from constipation. I have only had 1 to 2 bowel movements per week. I thought that was normal. I don't want to diagnose anyone but I am just saying, if your not having a bowel movement once a day and your having side pains, it could very well be constipation. I have had many tests done, but it wasn't until my final emergency room visit they did an X-Ray and said my intestines were full....really full. If you think this is your problem I would go get a bottle of Magnesium Citrate from your local drugstore. Its a liquid laxative. I tried everything to make myself go to the bathroom and this stuff was the only thing that got rid of my pains and caused me to have bowel movements. Plus it's cheap....$1.50 a bottle.
Then clean your diet up, because it will happen again. I am now on some pills I take every night before bed, called Temple Cleanse. They are awesome.
I have the same problem and am going crazy as it is there everyday. I am about to try a juice cleanse with a bowel clean of bentonite clay, psyllium husk and massage. I hope i am backed up and that is all it is. I got onto this from a guy named Don Tolman. He has a series of 8 posts on youtube if u are keen. Laxatives seem to hurt and give massive cramps. Doctors cant seem to say what the hell is going on. Not going to the toilet for a couple of days then all of a sudden i need to get to the toilet within 30 seconds or ots all over . . .
I have bad pains and i am often woken from my sleep with servere pain which has me running to the toilet.
For years the drs thougt i had period related problems as my symptoms got worse at the time of the month,i have had internal and external scans but all came back satisfactory,as firstly they expected endimetriosis
I changed my dr who took my bloods and tested for inflammation and have just had my results of my cealiac test (which took 8 weeks as the last one was thrown away by accident). She also pressed on my colon low on my left side where my pain is worse, which hurt me badly, she confirmed it was colon pain. All my tests have come back clear so i have been diagnosed with IBS
I have been on amitriptaline for 3 months starting at 10mg i am now on 30 mg which i find is making a difference to me,i dont wake as often and the pain is now something i can put up with.I still have bad spasms(am having one now).I know some foods which make me worse and im just ging to start a food diary to avoid the foods that make me feel like this.
I do hope you find a solution to your pain and soon as i know how you feel
iv been diagnosed with i.b,s about 3-4months ago, i get pain in my sides some times its n the right and other times in the left, i got quite worried that it was something serious so when i went to the doc, i asked her and she said that when u constapaited it hurts at the sides. maybe it could be that.
Idk how old this thread is but i have had very similar pains. I have had just about every doctor test done and all came back with nothing. I have also changed diet in countless ways. The docs did diagnose me with IBS, basically the diagnosis when they cant find anything else. But yet could not find a cure. I felt as though i had something in my lower colon that could not move past a certain spot or that it was just really tight. I ended up seeing a psychiatrist and she believed it to be caused by anxiety. I am not sure If you have looked in to that being a possibility or not. perhaps ask you doc to prescribe you some type of mild anxiety med such a klonopin and see if it does not relieve the pain. klonopin is a fast acting anti anxiety med that is something you can take as needed. I just looked at the threat and i think this is from 2003...so this is prolly of no use. ha
I have just had another IBS attack- own stoopid fault for eating onions 2 days ago!
I hear you about the pain! My stomach is now flat right under my ribs but down on my right hand side when I press my tummy about 4 inches under my ribs its really tender and sore. I am assuming from all of the cramping and squeezing of the intestines inside!!!.
God I wish someone would find a cure for this!! Also is this just a disease of modern day society? Has anyone got any relatives who are older say in their 70's who have this?
andym.... I believe the rope knot in your left side is a sigmoid, you have one in your right you will mostlikely not notice it, but left one is usually substantouly more enlarged because it is part of your colon and lower intestines. Im thin and wondered what this ropy feeling thing about four inche long and diameter of a dime. the pain in your back and left side, can you feel the pressure and irratation when you tighten your stomach and act like you are making a bowl movement. Or when you stick out your stomach do you get pain in your right side.
