hi new to the board...I've had IBS since 1989 but recently (last 5mths) I've been getting mucus with my stool. This never happened before. Its white and stringy, sometimes looks like cobwebs. Sometimes I feel like I have to go and all that comes out is some mucus. Anyone else have this? Do I have another problem??

hi angie,
i've had the slimy mucus in the stool a lot since having problems with ibs, but never white and stringy...I was reading though that white in the stool is a good indication of inflammation in the intestine.

its not white in the stool at all...normal brownish color...the mucus is separate
whitish like cobwebs...my family dr has sent requeste for a scope to be done but he didn't seem too concerned. Its just funny how I had IBS for so many years and never had this issue

hi angie, I recently got a very quick ibs dx (meaning with very little tests run) I am not sure if I think gastro is right since I have so many other symptoms but that is a whole nother story. you can search my name and read thread from a few days ago on IBS board if curious. I also have exactly what you are talking about. It is not in the bm it looks like white stringy stuff coming off of it, really white and it "cobwebs" through the water. For awhile I thought it was tp but started making sure there was none leftover in toilet before I went and it def is some sort of mucus / tissue. I also have a lot of clear slimy mucus sometimes that is all that passes. Sorry I don't have a real answer for you but I thought I was the only one....I have read peeps with the clear mucus but none like this. I will continue to check and feel free to Pm me.. Maybe if one of us can find and answer than we can steer eachother in the right direction.ps this has been going on with me since march best of luck -Jen
