I have had the diarrhea type of IBS for about 3 years now. I have managed to keep it well under control, but have had a flare-up today. It started with slight stomach pains and diarrhea this morning, but the pains in my belly are now so bad that I can't sleep and am desperate as to know what to do.
I have not vomited, but feel quite nauseated, so oral pain meds are out of the question. I am just wondering whether to call out the emergency doc to give me a pain shot or go to the ER? Has anyone else ever had to have a pain shot for their stomach pains? I really don't want to go to the ER when I know that it is IBS pains rather than anything more serious.
I really didn't know that IBS belly pains could be this bad. Please help.
i am so sorry, but IBS pains can get relly bad all u can do is try to rest, try a heating pad or hot bath that has helped me in past! good luck sorry i could not be of more help!
Thanks for the post and I will look at your advice soon. I have not felt well enough to do so over the past couple of days and have been struggling to get my stomach pains back under control again.
As none of my regular oral pain meds have been working recently and my pain was so severe, I had to ring for an emergency doc to come visit me. After examining my belly to assure himself that nothing more serious was going on, he gave me a Voltarol injection for my pain. He then gave me a script for Voltarol tabs to take if my pain ever became that severe again.
This injection got my stomach pains back under control within an hour and I just wondered if anyone else has had success with this medication either in oral or injectable form for their stomach pains?
My normal drug regime is Metamucil twice a day, Colofac three times a day before meals and Co-Dydromol for stomach pains if I have any. I also take Acidophilis caps every day too. I only ever seem to have little flare-ups, as this little lot seems to keep it pretty much under control. This is worst flare-up I have ever had with diarrhea and severe stomach pains that lasted for three days. Has anyone had success with any other pain meds?
