I was wondering if anyone has any info on IBS and absorption of nutrients. I've searched medical journals but haven't been able to find anything. My doctor and chiropractor said yes, it is affected. But I'm not satisfied with that, I like to know as much as I can. Thanks.
With IBS you have bouts of diarrhea that washes nutrients from your intestinal tract. THis results in you needing to replace most of them. It is estimated that people with IBS need about 40% more protein that the average person. Also, you need to replace Calcium, Magnesium and potassium along with others.
If you have diarrhea you need to find a way to slow it down so you can absorb the essential Vits/Minerals. I believe in taking a water soluble fiber supplement that is a stool forming agent. It is safe and it works ---Metamucil or Citrucel.Metamucil produces more gas at first but as your system get use to it---the Gas will go away.
I use Equate put out by Wal Mart ---it courser than Metamucil and it is cheaper. Just start off slow and increase the doses until you get a gentle Bowel Movement without straining. Also, drink alot of water---psyllium aborbs water. Too little water can cause constipation.

Thanks for the response. I have IBS primarily type C unles I eat the wrong thing. I do take Metamucil 2x a day, 100mg Dicetel 3x a day, and Cytotec 200 mcg 3x a day to stimulate my intestines. I was wondering because I bruise a lot more easily now, bruise deeper, and have broken a toe. Thanks.
