Anybody have this problem with IBS

Hi
I have a question and was wondering if anybody out there was suffering with it too. I have IBS D but I have to stomach pain , gas or cramping. When I get the slightest feeling I have to get to a bathroom and quickly. I can't stop it in any way. I have been trying to get some control by taking fiber and caltrate 600. But so far no luck. I feel so down and depressed. Anybody have any ideas? Open to all sugestions. Thanks

Re: Anybody have this problem with IBS

Hi, Cherlybeth

I have been dealing w/IBS for several years alternating between diarrhea and constipation. My episodes w/D are the worst. Like you when it hits I have to get to the bathroom ASAP. There have been many, many times that I didn't make it to a bathroom, so now I wear thin maxi pads daily. It feels like a water balloon suddenly breaking inside of me. Like you, it gets me down because I feel like I have no control over it. For the last 2 months, I have been taking 1 acidophilus capsule w/my breakfast. I have noticed that since I have been taking it, the amount of mucus in my bowels have decreased substantially. Also, I keep a journal of the foods I eat and so far I have noticed 3 things each time I have suffered an attack, (i) I ate something w/high fat, (ii) something happened to cause me stress on the day of the attack & (iii) more often than not,it was around my period. So, I suggest that you try to be aware of what you eat,the state of mind you are in when eating, and where you are in your cycle. Try to stay calm and relatively stress free (when you figure how to do that, please tell me), and remember that you are not alone. There are tons of people who are in the same boat you have found yourself in. When I get depressed after an episode, I keep reminding myself there are worse things that I could have besides diarrhea & cramping. Good luck and take care of yourself.
