I cannot believe not ONE PERSON has any insight on this!

I posted a message re: conception/affects on sperm and being on 6-mp. As I understand it, Ulcerative Colitis most commonly strikes 20-40 year olds ... childbearing years. I cannot believe there is not one person that has been/is on this drug and wants to conceive! Just looking for some support, some answers, etc. If anyone out there has any info at all on this topic, please post. Yes, we have a physician, however, I want to get as much info as possible, from a variety of sources, on this subject.

Thank you.

What do you mean by "6 mp"?

Don't understand your question/point.

6-mp is a drug used to treat Ulcerative Colitis/Chrones. It's name is Mercaptopurine [or Purinethol, 6-MP]. If you are not on this drug, or ever even heard of this drug, then of course you wouldn't understand my question! My question was regarding the effects of being on this drug (6-MP) and conceiving. Again, I cannot believe that no one on this drug has run into the situation that I am in with my fiance. Well, I will keep searching for my answers.

kc13,
I have seen your messages so I did a search and found----The drug you refer to is primarily used to treat---Leukemia---. Some doctors obviously use it for other illnesses. It just may not be very popular to be used for Gastro problems.

Harry, thanks for the insights. Yes, you are correct in that 6-MP is not a drug used primarly for IBD, it is typically used to treat cancer (Lukemia). It is very popular in treating IBD, just maybe you haven't heard of it, or known someone at that stage in their disease that is necessary. It's very powerful, and made my fiance very sick for the first month he was on it. I don't think everyone can go on it, or even stay on it for that matter. He went on it because the Asacol wasn't keeping him in remission any longer ... Thanks, again for your post.
