I just wanted everyone to know that I was diagnosed with IBS about 3 years ago and my Dr. put me on Levbid. Before the drug, I would have bouts almost after EVERY meal. Since I have been on levbid, I only have maybe one a month and I DO notice it more before my period (which is unfortunate with everything else that occurs during that time )
You may want to check with your Dr. about this medication. It does make you a little sleepy so I take mine at night. The reccomended dosage was 2 before breakfast and 2 before bed, but that made me entirely too tired. I only take 1 before bed and that does the trick for me. I do try to limit greasy foods and deep fat fried foods. Eating a lot of red meat seems to irritate my stomach the most even taking Levbid, but it still isn't nearly as bad as before the medication.
I had cold sweats, cramping, gas, bouts of constipation.....well, you know the symptoms. Now, I dont have NEAR the amount of pain and suffering. I dont HATE eating anymore and am not afraid of spending an hour in Target if I go after I eat. lol Email me if you have questions. For me, it worked immediately. I noticed a change in about 2 weeks. The only thing I didnt like was that the original dosage was two before lunch and two before bed. If I took it during the day, it made me very tired and I had an "I dont care" attitude. I stopped taking any during the day and only take one before bed. For me, that helped and I didnt have trouble getting up in the AM. I hope it works out for you too. I still notice certain foods make me have an episode, for a lack of a better term. Like KFC or really greasy stuff, some pizza, like Chicken pizza from Pizza Hut or Papa Murphy's, I still end up in the bathroom about an hour later or with really bad gas, but the PAIN isn't there....that is the best part for me.
Email me if you have any other questions. I'd be glad to help anyway I can.
I had the sharp lower back pains that felt like it was shooting up my rectum and through my back but no, I did not get rib pain, only lower abdominal back pain. I had a Barium enima done to make sure they diagnosed me correctly with IBS. Good luck to you, I hope levbid helps you or something else soon.
