Re: Do any of you get chest pains?
Hi, JCTTeach - sounds like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is your problem. In addition to IBS, I've also been diagnosed with GERD, and had anti-reflux surgery for it in June 2001. So far, it's taken care of the chest pain, except when gas pains build up, but the pains are nothing compared to what they used to be. My esophagus was starting to show pre-cancerous cell changes so I decided surgery was my best option, because I was tired of taking Prilosec 2 times daily. However, ever since surgery I'd say my IBS and diarrhea are worse, but lately, I've been able to control it with calcium supplements and Metamucil wafers. Occasionally, I take Bentyl 20 mg for flare-ups. Check with a gastroenterologist or a surgeon who specializes in gastrointestional disorders. Good luck.
