As you know everybody is different and what has to be done is general in nature. But, I have found everyone that has IBS is intolerant to one or more foods and you have to find out what causes you problems.
As you know there are entire books written about what you ask---here is a very short version.
You need to eat a diet with plenty of vegatables and fruit.You do this more in the warmer months than the colder months.
Avoid all carbonated beverages, coffee, sugar, caffiene, dairy products except yogurt, fried foods, junk food, wheat products, pastries, processed food---These produce mucus in your intestines ---you don't need.
Keeps you from absorbing the good nutrients.
Don't use alcohol or tobacco---they can irritate the stomach and intestines.
Try to cut down on gas producing foods if they cause you a problem ----such as beans, sweet potatos, cabbage, etc.
Eat slow, never eat in a hurry and chew your food well.
I am a big believer in talking a water soluble fiber(fibre) like Metamucil or Citrucel---DAILY!!! Just because we don't get enough in our daily diet. Taking it will not only keep your colon cleaner but make your BMs regular. Drink alot of good quality water.
Never but never allow yourself to get constipated.It can cause alot of problems that you just don't need in your life.
Supplements: Take essential fatty acids, B-complex, Multi vitamin and minerals similar to Twinlabs --Daily Two formula. Acidopilus formula like Probiotica, or PB-8.
