Problems with bowels

I don't have IBS (that I know of anyway). I'm really big into eating protein bars, but because of past experiences with how they affect me (severe gas..not regular bowel movements), I am now completely giving them up. I have tried every kind of protein bar out there to see which one my body could tolerate. This last one was the Luna bars, which are 70% organic. Yet i'm still having problems.

It's been a few days since i've had my last protein bar. I'm having gas, and my bowels are still not normal. On top of stopping the protein bars all together, I take probiotic pills (here and there-not on a set schedule).

As far as the probiotics, i read that taking too much can make you sick. So i try not to take it everyday. But I'm wondering if my GI problems could be because of:
1) lack of/inconsistency with taking probiotics
2) too much probiotic intake

I'm wondering if I should just take the probiotics everyday (1 pill) until i feel better? How does one know if she has too many/lack of probiotic intake?

Or maybe probiotics aren't the issue? This is just my assumption.

Any help is appreicated! Thanks!

Re: Problems with bowels

I have IBS and Probiotics did not agree with me so I dont take them now.
Dont guess you have IBS see a Dr for a correct diagnoses.
Leave off the protein bars and look up diets for IBS, the diet really does help, also try Aloe-Vera juice, I found it helpful.
Good Luck,

Solofelix.

I have had IBS since 1996 and use probiotics on a regular basis and don't have ill side effects from them. I usually double my dose when I am on antibiotics to keep from getting diarrhea and a yeast infection and I also eat yogurt as well.
Many people who have IBS have problems with protein(usually red meats) with making them constipated and have more gas. Nuts are a good source of protein and are a good source of fiber as well. You only need about a handful a day. Do you like or have any allergies to soy as that is also a good source of protein. Be careful because too much protein without enough fiber and water will constipate you most likely.

Re: Problems with bowels

Yes, I have been researching this since I'm having IBS symptoms with constipation. I have been on a low carb/high protein diet and it worked, I lost about 20 lbs, but now I have IBS/C. I guess these diets are known for causing problems like this for some. I'm adding more fiber, but trying not to gain weight I used to drink the protein shakes, but I had problems with those too. Don't know if it was the whey or the protein. It's so hard to be healthy
