So sick of farting!

So sorry for the name of the thread...

I was medically diagnosed with IBS 10 years ago, but I've not had to change my eating habits till now.
My toilet habits are frequent incomplete BM when I have taken Movicol and most of the time my stools float. I usually start the day with a bloated stomach but I don't actually start farting untill late afternoon, they stink, bubble and burn on the way out and that will continue most of the night.

I have cut all dairy out of my diet and have just started to eliminate fruits as I suffer terrible cramps when I eat apples and mandarins. I don't eat a lot of bread, pasta, potato, grains nuts and seeds as they too give me cramps, bloating, belching and farting.

I'm not sure what to do from here. I know I should see my doctor and get a referral to a specialist but I am so embarrassed...

Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do next...
I have to do something as it is impacting on quite a few areas of my life..

Thanks

Sounds like you might be consuming a lot of acidic, spicy, and gassy foods that make your farts smell and burn when expel them. Try eating some oatmeal in the morning for breakfast and put some flax seed in it. Pears are high in fiber but not acidic or gassy.

You may want to see a GI doctor and look into small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I have had IBS for over 25 years - my symptoms changed a few years back - pain up high; SEVERE passing of gas; bloating up high...Look into it

sorry - hit reply before I was done!! Anyway, I was diagnosed with it 8 months ago. Many doctors believe close to 75% of IBS sufferers have SIBO also. Just a thought.... I was tested for celiac also; had endoscopy; tons of bloodwork and a high positive on the breath test for SIBO. MaryAnn

Re: So sick of farting!

I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 15. I am now 26. It got worst after the birth of my first child, 6 years ago. I couldn't figure out what was the cause for my incomplete and inconsistent bowel movements and of course, the excessive amount of gas. I was miserable. About 3 years ago I had a colonscopy done and everything looked fine except the fact my IBS is real bad. My gastro prescribed Miralox for the bowel movements and it definitely helped. But for the gas he prescribed Librax. The pills definitely calmed down the gas. I was able to eat whatever I wanted without having to pass so much gas like I did before. The only thing about the pills is they made me drowsy but everyone is different.

Just saw your post about SIBO. I was diagnosed with SIBO about 3 months ago. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS. My symptoms have also changed over time. Now I currently only experience gas in the evenings and in the morning when I wake up until I have a BM. It's very uncomfortable and I also have extreme fatigue and brain fog from all the toxins.

I've been seeing a naturopath doctor and she has put me on the GAPS diet. And I'm also taking the antibiotic rifaximin. I've had no success with this antibiotic with any change in my symptoms. I know its possible to feel good again because when I had my son I tested positive for Strep B and had to be put on the antibiotic penicillin. After having my son I had no symptoms and regular BMs. It felt so weird to actually feel good!

But anyways, has anyone else been on an antibiotic and then felt better? For how long? And were you taking probiotics at the same time? And how long did it take before you had your same symptoms again? Has anyone tried the GAPS diet and had success? And does anybody else only experience gut fermentation in the evenings?

I also had a stool test done, said my gut flora was in a state of dysbiosis where my beneficial bacteria wasn't as high as it should be. And my bad bacteria was too high. Also my stool ph was too acidic which proves there is gut fermentation going on.

My goal is to figure out how to get my body back into its homeostasis state and to be feeling good again.

Hi - for me, after 4 rounds or maybe it was 5 rounds of xifaxan, I have gone gluten free, very low carbs and very low sugars. I feel fine on the xifaxan, but the symptoms have returned every single time. The gluten free diet has been a miracle for me. No more bloating and my gas is much better. I certainly know now when I eat too many carbs/sugars. I instantly get bloated and my passing of gas becomes well, how to put this nicely !!! VERY LOUD AND VERY LONG AND VERY OFTEN!!!! LOL I don't thinkt the sibo its gone - not sure it ever will be, but I absolutely will remain gluten free because for me, its been a miracle.

Oh and I forgot to mention, probiotics seem to make me worse ... I have tried several kinds and they are so expensive. I also had my stool tested last year - no parasites or anything of that sort, but I do have malabsorption and fat in them - my stools suddenly started floating all the time; again sorry.... smelt HORRIBLE and were sometimes oily. I freaked thinking something was wrong with my pancreas. Had abd. U/S which was normal and the stool issue has improved as far as the smell and oil, but they mostly still float which never happened to me before - well, maybe on a rare exception, but not consistent.
