Hello all. I have been reading some posts on this board and decided it may be a good place to post what my symptoms are and see what thoughts you may have. (It's long... feel free to skim).
Over the past few years I would occasionally get a very strong pain in my upper middle abdomen (right where my ribs, part below the sternum) some time in the evening. Sometimes I would go to bed and the pain would be gone by morning. Other times I would throw up around 2 am. I couldn't find a food to link it to, and it was so far later than when I would eat that I'm unsure if it was from that. When the pains got more frequent I had an upper endoscopy and ultrasound done. My gallbladder and liver looked fine, and the only thing that showed up was GERD (chronic acid reflux). I'm not totally convinced that's all that caused it, but eating smaller meals and staying away from fried foods has somewhat helped. Didn't notice a difference from taking Prilosec/Dexilant (heartburn relief I was told to take).
I've always had normal BMs; usually one in the morning everyday. I have very rarely experienced diarrhea or any unusual BMs. Starting around April I started having strong
urgency to go. This wouldn't happen everyday but would happen in the morning. It started on a road trip, and I'd try to get up early and let it pass before we'd leave but that didn't work - as soon as we'd get in the car I'd HAVE to go. It happened on and off for a few months.
I am a teacher and this would make for really uncomfortable mornings. I told the librarian across the hall from me so she knew to come in if I rushed out. It was miserable, so I took Imodium the last few weeks of school to make it through.
Now it's to the point where I am always looking for restrooms and get nervous going places, which I'm sure makes it worse. I don't always have diarrhea, it's just an absolute need to go. Also, I will feel like I have to go but there is nothing that needs to come out. I just feel off in my lower abdomen almost all the time.
Anyway, I am thinking I have IBS or something similar, although I don't know why I used to throw-up and then that stopped and I am having lower GI problems. I have an appt with my regular dr next week and with the GI dr in late August (it's so hard to get into a specialist!). I wrote a log of my symptoms and have been trying to keep a food log, but can't find a pattern.
I guess I'm mostly just venting. I'm really nervous about starting the school year again, and also fear that taking Imodium is not good (I keep reading different things). So, if anyone has any comforting words or ideas I'd appreciate it. Thank you for listening!
