Suggestions for possible IBS
I am 42. I am mostly healthy and take no medicines. I am 5'10" and 180lb. Could stand to lose 10 pounds like most of us.
I've never been diagnosed with IBS. But I am pretty sure I have it. I have had my gall bladder out roughly 10 years ago and ever since when I eat fatty fried foods, it's the worst having to go #2 within 30 min or less. My stools are rarely solid (once in a blue moon). I don't always eat fatty foods, and my urges aren't as bad then, but I still can use the restroom between 4-10 times a day. If I eat corn (good test to see how long it takes) it's roughly 8 hours for it to pass through my system.
I have pain in my stomach area until I go and then I feel fine. Once I have the feeling, I need to usually stop somewhere and go. I can't wait more than about 5 minutes from the time I get the urge.
Awhile ago, a doctor friend told me to try Lypace (not sure on the spelling) and it seemed to work, but I gained a lot of weight so I stopped. I drink a lot of fluids, mostly water and un-sweet tea.
I also worry about Crohns diesase because my father had a bad case of it and had his intestine partially removed. (he still has IBS type issues like I do).
What are some things I can try before visiting the doctor?
