I had to have a colonoscopy done last week. Because of not having a bowel movement for about 2 months before. The doc said there was no blockages, he also said I should have have a BM within 3 days of having that done.It has been over a week & still nothing. I do not go back to the doctor until March 4. Is there anything I can do before then? Thanks Alberta
Try a glycerin suppository. It can take up to an hour for it to work. When you feel the urge to move your bowels don't strain and force the hard stool out because it could cause an anl fissure and or hemorrhoids. Take 10 slow deep breaths and hold it to the count of fifteen( like 1,1000,2,1000,3,1000 etc.)and then slowly exhale through pursed lips. keep repeating the cycle up 30 minutes or you're able pass stool. This actually works to help the rectal and analsphincters to relax so it's easier to pass hard stool and it doesn't hurt nearly as much as when you strain and try to force the stool out. I have done this after not moving my bowels for several days in a row. If you still can't have a bowel movement aftet 2 hours after using the suppository you may need to go to a oil based enema.
