Unhappy Doctor basically tells me to deal with it myself.

So for over a year now I have suffered from daily diarrhea, cramping and severe pain in localized areas (usually in the ULQ). I have had a barium swallow, barium meal and abdominal ultrasound done, as well as blood tests. The blood tests came back saying I was anemic and had low sodium. The doctor also told me I have GERD and put me on co-pantoprazole 40mg once a day, every day, but it's my lower digestive track that's causing most of the problems and pain (and blood sometimes after going to the bathroom). She (the dr.) basically told me it's IBS, and told me to try eating more probiotics (which is hard to find in a dairy free form). I am vegan (been for 2 years, and vegetarian prior to that), so I don't see what could be causing irritation - I have been tested for celiacs, but that came back negative. I have also cut out soy as I know that can cause trouble, but to no avail. I get episodes where I get nauseous and shaky and have cold sweats and have even passed out once (which when I brought it up to my doctor - same day she told me my test results - said it was probably from standing). I've only been to the doctor about 3 times between August and December, as I dislike going because I feel like I'm being a nuisance and they don't really believe me, but the pain is getting much worse :[ Does anyone know of a way to help the pain subside and get this under control a bit?
thanks any advice would be much appreciated.

I know what your saying. Some doctors don't understand the thought process people go through when they hurt and can't find out why. It would be much better if something was found and treated. Doctors have the tests done--come back ok and they want to drop you. They made their money and leave you out in the cold with the big question mark hanging over you. I strongly believe they should give you medication to calm your system down. Xanax or something similar in a very mild form. At least that will make you feel better and give you time to get your head around things. Doctors are so worried about someone getting hooked on the meds they forget all about how your feeling. If it were them that was hurting---bet your bottom dollar they would use whatever made them feel better. Soooooo--tell your doctor you want something to calm your system down. You won't get hooked---and you will feel much better.

Hey

I'm vegan to and eat so healthy too that I can't believe my IBS is so severe. I also have severe hormonal imbalance which is also killing me.I take cullterelle probiotic which is dairy free. So far it's not really helping. I just started taking it too. I get severe attack a lot and know that horrible cold sweat passing out feeling which is so scary. I know wheat can cause horrible symtoms so I stopped eating eat and now I don't have cramping 24/7 like I used too.

I have been to a lot of socs and they all have been cold and just throw drugs my way. Most docs just care about money and have no morals.

Yep.. unfortunately a doctor labels you with IBS and says go and enjoy life. It can be very frustrating. I don't even have a specialist for my IBS, my main doctor (who is retired thankfully) said that basically no one would want me cause I am such a hard case and the new doctor basically said "there is nothing we can do for you". Great. thanks. With the pain have you tried putting some heat on it? Shaky, cold sweats and nauseated hmmm... have you been fully tested for lack of something? Like hypoglycemia can cause that apparently but so can panic attacks. How is your anxiety? The main thing is don't feel like your a nuisance, its your body, your health why should you have to suffer? A doctor gets paid to try and help you and if this doctor can't maybe try looking at some others?
