Appreciating animals

I miss my old family dog. He got put to sleep around 2-3 year ago. I miss him so much and wish he was here.

A dog loves you no matter how you look, how your personality is, wether your smart or dumb, fat, thin, whatever race, gender.

How many people can you say that about? Not many

It is upsetting that some people are cruel to them. Instead of loving them back. Same with all good animals, love them ,appreciate them they are beautiful animals. Even a shark is not a bad animal. its just doing what we all do to survive -eating.

Re: Appreciating animals

So sorry about your dog. I've got cats and have lost a few over the years - I miss them all.

We also have a herd of wild deer that we give small amounts of food to. I never would have imagined how many facial expressions they have and how different their personalities are. I got two of the fawns to come about 3 feet from me the other day. I hate that deer season is soon. If someone needs hunt to feed their family I can live with that, but just for fun.. Not so much.

Re: Appreciating animals

I know what you mean. I am so thankful for all the animals in this world. I love animal documentaries, acquariums, and zoos, since it's fun to see the wide varieties of them.

I lost my sweet sheltie several months ago. At least I can take consolation that the vet said that she was the equivalent of 96 in human years. Of course, I still miss her and know I always will. Each pet is different, almost as much as people....

Hi, RoseQuartz, and all other Animal lovers; absolutely believe that are pets will give you their unconditional love and friendship no matter what happens.I have had a number of pets throughout my life and the last time I had a dog that I had to put to sleep because she had cancer was very hard, she trusted me and her love was so great that I was the only one in the family that she followed room to room all day she stayed by me. I hope that animals go to heaven and will be there waiting for me when my time comes.

Re: Appreciating animals

i hate to hear animal cruelty and animal experiments. i sign all the petitions to stop it. i honeslty believe if i met someone who hurt animals i would have to commit murder. if that sounds too extreme then i disagree. animals are the most thing in this world that makes life pretty and comforting. yeah i watch animal documentarys, i donate to animal rescue places i wont donate to any other charity. british heart foundation and cancer research uk all use there money to fund lab experiments. i dont use any cleaning product or make up shampoo or whatever that has been noted down as been tested on animals i read a big list of companys that use there products on animals in labs. like max factor, johnson and johnson etc.

I love animals, I had a bunch of pets. But come on, give a little trust in our humans There may be a few of them, but the love you'll get from your family and friends is not comparable to anything.

Re: Appreciating animals

oh yeah, animals are just the best.
They love you - no matter what.
and they are always warm

We had a golden retriever who died about seven years before her time. It was unexpected - she had a heart condition. It was very sad, but I would never give up the love and bond between a pet and an owner.

I can't stand cruelty to animals...it makes me so sad. Glad to see others agree.

Re: Appreciating animals

I am a HUGE animal lover, I was brought up in a madcap house where my father took in all the injured wildlife in our area, this was in the days before there were professionals for this. So we ALWAYS had a joey (baby kangaroo) hopping around, a few baby possums curled up in various baskets, cages of injured birds, even the odd snake here and there (only the nice ones though lol), as well as our pet cat and dog. It was so natural for it to be that way, but I look back now and am so thankful of the unusual gift my father gave me in learning from birth to love and nurture animals, how rewarding it can be and how much love they can give us back.

I've lost a few very dear furry deformed children over the years but I don't think any of them have touched my heart and soul as much as my now 15 year old cat Milo, he's just a frumpy old pure black Tabby that no one wanted, but has seen me through a lot of hard times and no matter what, he is always there to comfort me, he seems to know when I need him close. I sometimes think he's more human than the actual humans out there. But he's aging, isn't as quick on his feet anymore, the bones are starting to click and he's had a few fatty benign tumours removed. I love him dearly as do my whole family, and I think in utter devastation of the years I'll have ahead of me after he goes. But for now he's here, gets treated like a king and is loved whole heartedly...he's more than a pet...he's my family.

Thanks for listening.

Bella

Re: Appreciating animals

I love all the animals I've been blessed to have in my life! After losing my beloved dachshund Pepper in 2007 I swore I'd never have another dog, the heartbreak was so bad!

Now I'm the owner of another dachshund mix, Scooby!

Generally, animals are a lot better than humans in the unconditional love department...wished we could have that ability as easily as they do!

Love is a universal thing, we love are families, friends and pets. Some people attach a human like quality to there pets and believe that the love of there pet for them is unmatched by anyone else, also a pet is like a small child inocent and unable to voice there needs. So if someone feels that their dog or cat or what ever loves them more than anyone else can, so what, its there choice. But I agree that sometimes we don't give enough credit to the other human beings in are life who can love unconditionally and family is very important to me.

Re: Appreciating animals

Yes, I've been doing animal rescue for more than 10 years now and I have seen all kinds of terrible things people do to animals.

My precious Siamese died in 2008 of renal failure. I was giving him Sub-cue fluids every other day (my vet taught me how to do it).

He wasn't just a pet, he was part of the family. A person in a cat body.

Re: Appreciating animals

We've owned many dogs. Among our last few dogs were two poodles, both of whom died of kidney failure. The first one, Gizmo ( whose picture I use for my avatar ) was 12½, 15 years ago, when she passed. The Veterinarian had diagnosed her of fatal kidney failure. He wanted to do a biopsy to get more info. I asked him "why do a biopsy if there was no chance of survival and if the biopsy would not change, or improve the treatment of her". He said that he just wanted to know. So.... he wanted to put our dear sick ailing Gizmo through a nasty surgical procedure, just so he could get some meaningless info!?

We took Gizmo to another Vet. He said that she was terminal. He suggested that we feed Gizmo all of the chicken that she could eat so that she could enjoy her last few days. We followed his advice, but learned later it was the absolutely the worst thing we could do.

10 years ago, when Critter, at age 14, was diagnosed with Kidney Failure, we changed her diet, greatly limiting the proteins in her diet. She lived another two great, happy wonderful years. All it took was a change in her diet. The last few months got a little tough, though. We had to wake up frequently, throughout the night, and carry her outside to do her business. But... it was worth it, and she seemed happy and to be doing well. It was only at the very end that she deteriorated badly and we could tell that she was feeling sick all of the time.

It's been 8 years since Critter passed. I still miss her greatly. I miss the way that she would "whine" for me to come and play with her. I miss the way that she would cuddle up with me. She seemed to get more loving the older she got.

As with the other pet lovers on this thread, the losing of a pet leaves a huge broken hole in our hearts.

Re: Appreciating animals

I, like everyone else here am a true animal lover. As a child growing up we weren't allowed pets where we lived so as soon as I was able to get married and have my own place I got a dog. Not only was she part of our family she WAS family. Since then we have owned 3 other dogs and 4 cats, all lived till 17 except the last cat lived till 19. He passed 2 years ago and I took it extremly hard so have been reluctant to get another. It is so painful to lose them.

Every so often I get tempted to get another kitty but still haven't convinced myself it is the right thing to do. I miss each and every pet I ever owned as all I had to do was feed them, walk them and love them and I got back 125% of loving from them. I even have an album with pix of them all so I can go back and relive the great memories I have of them all.

JJ...Definate animal lover...

We certainly need harsher penalties for animal abuse. Personally, I would want those who abuse an animal to suffer the same abuse, or worse, that they inflicted on the animal, regardless of the age of the abuser!

What right do we have to inflict pain and torture on animals for our own benefit!? It really angers me! They could find other ways to test their medications and experiments.

I am an Atheist, but I would really love it if a god existed, who was an animal lover!

Re: Appreciating animals

I lost my beautiful 'soul animal' in January. His name was Boss and he was an English Stafford cross Kelpie. He was the most gorgeous, loyal creature that ever graced this earth. The love he had for me was... amazing. I came home one day to find him fully paralysed on my back patio. He'd been bitten by a deadly brown snake. He was put to sleep in my arms. I miss his so much, he was my baby and constant companion, and the mischief he and my 2 year old used to get up to!! Argh!! Lol. Rest peacefully baby boy <33
