You cannot lower creatinine the way you could sodium or blood glucose by simply cutting back on things like salt or sugar. Creatinine is a byproduct of muscle metabolism. So using your muscles (to stand, walk, breathe, whatever) will produce creatinine.
What you can do for your kidney health is to keep hydrated (with caffeine free beverages), maintain good blood pressures/sugars and to cut back on sodium. And make sure you keep in contact with your doctor that is monitoring this.

Agree with Cora.
Avoid excess protein in your diet. Don't take anything body building related. Creatine, protein powder, etc.
Watch your vitamin intake and just take a daily multivitamin.
Best of luck to you. I was Stage 3 kidney failure now I'm Stage 1. Kidney function can get better by following proper diet, maintain healthy weight, control blood pressure.

I was just diagnosed as stage 2, 65 yr old female who is having sleepless nights as I'm terrified and very worried. Yours is the first response that I read so far that improved your stage (just started reading everything I can). Could you please tell me how you accomplished that improvement? I would be extremely grateful. Thanks

How did you get from stage 3 to 1?
It is almost miraculous. 1 is e-GFR 90's and up, right? (plus evidence of kidney damage). Do you still have that evidence?
I have been hoping for the miracle of returning to 90's for two years now, but after a drop from 98 to 77 (post pneumonia, two years ago), the eGFR stayed in the 70's and 80's, with the latest at 72 (the lowest yet).
My nephro says I do not have CKD as my protein came back under 150 mg/24h, sometimes 200 mg if I stand up more or late;
ultra sound all normal - so no actual proof of kidney damage.
But I feel dangerously close to an official diagnosis and I am in constant fear because of this.
I wonder if a return to 90 is humanly realistic if no CKD officially diagnosed yet.
Please give me that hope if you can!

Are there any chances to improve the damage already caused? Or is it like i can just avoid getting things worse...

Here's a couple of things. Don't get wrapped up in these "stages". They are a handy short form for doctors of different specialties to communicate with each other and give a ball park of where your kidney is at, technically speaking. It's sort of relevant when a doc wants to prescribe certain drugs or might slightly alter protocols for a procedure.
But as far as how you are actually doing? The "stages" don't mean that much. Some people will feel horrible at a creatinine level that puts them at only stage 3 (and they'll beg to start dialysis) and others (like myself) will continue to work well into the last stage (it goes from 1 to 5 and then is simply classified as ESRD, end stage renal disease).
So don't get all hyped up about what you have figured out from some online calclulator as to your stage. It actually has very little to do with how you are treated (except maybe to scare the pants off you to give up the salt shaker as your doctor has asked).
As for improving kidney functions? It's hard to tell. The thing is that once alterations show in your creatinine levels, you may have lost as much as 40% of your total kidney function. So whether or not you can "improve"? Probably not. But you can remain stable for a very long time (it took me from 1975 - protein in urine - to 2001, to go on dialysis).

Most of my problems were from bodybuilding and taking in excess supplements.
Once I dropped all those things improved dramatically.

How much protein did you have in urine when you first found out in 1975? Also, how old were you then?
I am terrified for where I am at the age of 44.
My protein is at 200mg/24 h if I stand up all day and stay up late into the night; but it goes within normal range (less than 150 mg/24 h) if I don't eat that much protein and don't stay up late. I think I have some postural interference too.
eGFR has fluctuated between 72 and 86 after an abrupt fall two years ago from 98 to 77.
My nephrologist says I do not have CKD but the numbers scare me because the protein is borderline.
