| Re: Last minute kidney stone procedure - plz help ASAP
My stone was 1.7 centimeters! It caused a blockage of my left kidney.
I had a stent inserted to push the stone back into the kidney and then two lithotripsies, a stent removal another blockage and a third lithotripsy.
One of the reasons lithotripsy is better, is because it's less invasive. The draw backs come with not knowing when you will pass the fragments. Listen to your doctor and strain your urine. Some is usually pulverized into powder and passed, but mostly into tiny pin head sized pieces that look like fine sand or grit. It can be uncomfortable for a few days or longer. Drink lots of lemonade and water.
Ask your doctor what types of stones you have. If he doesn't know, make sure you have them tested. That way you can take steps to not keep making more! Stones can cause damage to the kidney and ureters, so preventing them from forming is a wonderful thing!
If you have calcium oxalate stones ask your doctor about a supplement called Theralith X R. It is not a prescription, but it seems to work. It balances the chemistry in your kidneys. Passed my last stone in March 2014 and have been stone free since!
Hopefully, you will post to let us know how you are doing!
Good luck!
