Having stent removed in uro's office, how bad is it???

On Tuesday, I am going to have my stent removed in my urologists office. The stent was placed while under general anasthesia, but I guess it's going to come out without using anything. I am really having some anxiety over this since I am not seeing any sort of string hanging out that others have talked about. What can I expect as far as the procedure and the pain? I am thinking about taking one of the Lorcet 10, that was prescribed for the kidney stone before I go.

My wife has had it done once and she says NEVER AGAIN, She has also had a stent coming out one time and the Dr did a X-ray in the office to make sure. We had been tryin to tell him for 2 1/2 weeks she thought it was coming out, becuz of the major pain and bleeding she was having. Oh heah we went to the E.R. first and they said to contact her Dr in the morning, they did an X-ray and saw it was comin out. They said there was nothing they could do for her but some pain meds. Well this lovely Dr put the stent back in. ( IN THE OFFICE W/ NOTHING FOR PAIN). Then he just said ok your done get dressed and he left the room while my wife was screaming and crying in pain. I hope your case goes alot better than hers. She will not have anything done in the office again just because of this deal.

Hang in there!! Take care!!!!

Oh sweet Jesus, I told my wife that it was not going to be a walk in the park. I'm definitely taking the Lortab now.

I'm hoping it won't be too awful since I've only had the stent in for almost two weeks. The stone has passed, but now we gotta get this thing out.

Re: Having stent removed in uro's office, how bad is it???

Sorry I hope I didn't scare you. There is a little good news it is over very quickly and the pain will lessen up. My wife had already been dealing with alot of stones she was passing and she was already very very sore down there. And her and stents don't get along at all. They seen to argue w/each other alot. LOL Again this was just her case. Others I know might say it wasn't that bad, but my wifes case with all of the daily gravel she passed for the last 8 yrs has alot to do with it.

Sorry again.....

Re: Having stent removed in uro's office, how bad is it???

I guess I had better call there today and ask what to expect, and what I can do to prepare for it. I've been reading the board here and different people say that a string was actually hanging out to remove the stent, but so far I've saw no string. I had to have the stent because a stone blocked my ureter and ruptured my right kidney. Uro seems to think everything will heal back nicely, but still wants to keep an eye on renal functions for a while...
